Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults

Leave it to the Catholic Church to come up with a name like that for a committee!  Only the United States government can come up with longer names for committees or departments.  Whatever.  It means the Vatican is getting down to the business of doing a better job of protecting children and holding predators and bishops accountable.

A full explanation of the commission's purpose and work ahead is on a page of the blog that can be accessed at the top of the page.  Click on "Vatican Abuse Commission" and you will find a growing list of resources.  The top link goes directly to the Vatican web site:  "Abuse of Minors. The Church's Response".  Much information can be found there that dates back many years.

Another tab has general news about clergy sexual abuse.

Important to your healing is the Victim Assistance Coordinator tab.  There you will find the name and phone number of the contact person in your diocese who will help you move through the healing process.  This is the Church's response at the local level. They will have resources for you.  PLEASE give them a call.

And love the formatting on that page!  There's nothing like having Every Word In A Sentence begin with a capital letter.  I have no idea why that happened but it is driving this perfectionist nuts!  Sometimes I think God allows stupid things like that to happen just so I will let go of the need to have everything perfect all the time.

I will be following this commission's work with great interest.  I am sure you will too.  I will try to keep the Vatican Abuse Commission page updated with news as it develops.
